A Day at Tregothnan

Monday 30th May

At the Coffee Lounge, we pride ourselves on offering the best quality that Cornwall has to offer. This includes the very excellent, ‘Tregothnan Tea,’ produced from tea bushes grown in Cornwall. Fascinated by the uniqueness of this truly English tea, we leapt at the invitation to visit the Tregothnan Estate, home to the Boscawen family and find out more.

They have been growing ornamental Camellia on the estate for 200 years and back in 2000 the idea for an English grown tea took root in the kitchen garden behind a centuries old door and protected by Manuka bushes.

The extensive gardens are beautiful and home to pockets of tea bushes at varying ages, protecting them for 4-6 years until the uppermost tips are ready to be plucked.

Equally fascinating, was watching the teabags being made. Only the highest quality leaves are used and only perfect bags make it into the boxes.

The, ‘Tea Bar,’ on the estate is designed to give classes in expert brewing. In the Coffee Lounge, we offer our customers a timer to ensure a perfect brew time for their Tregothnan tea.

We had a great and educational day at the Tregothnan Estate, thanks to Jonathan Jones and his team. We love serving Cornish grown tea and our customers love it too.
